Liar, Lair, Pants on Fire!
Here are some slick lines you may hear that just aren’t true:
TALE: “Hi, I’m from Enbridge, your local utility company.”
TRUTH: Enbridge does not sell fixed rate contracts.
TALE: “If you don’t sign here, you could find yourself without natural gas.”
TRUTH: Only Enbridge can shut off your meter and the only time this will happen is if you don't pay your bill.
TALE: “We have the lowest rate for natural gas.”
TRUTH: For the past 3 years RiteRate.ca has consistently offered a lower 5 year fixed rate than competitors who sell at the door.
TALE: “This is a limited-time offer. You need to sign today.”
TRUTH: The price of natural gas is adjusted quarterly, not daily. Take time to get the information you need to make the decision that’s right for you.
TALE: “Natural gas prices are going sky-high very soon.”
TRUTH: While the price trend has clearly been up, the average annualized increase over the past 5 years has been 10-15% per year.
TALE: “I’m from the energy company and need to check something on your utility bill.”
TRUTH: Your natural gas utility bill contains private information such as your account number. You should never show a doorknocker your natural gas utility bill or any other bill for that matter.
